Daytona Supercross and Ricky Carmichael Amateur SX
Round 10 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross headed to Daytona Beach, FL this past weekend. Check out the Suzuki Inside Line on what happened with your favorite RM Army racer inside the iconic tri-oval Daytona International Speedway!
Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing-
The Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team rolled into the prestigious Daytona International Speedway to battle the competition on a demanding outdoor-style course. Suzuki RM-Z450 mounted Weston Peick was in a top-five position for much of the main. Peick finished the night in sixth and stands in sixth in the 450 championship standings. Fellow RM-Z450 rider Malcolm Stewart looked at home in the sandy and technical Florida conditions. Stewart was well inside the top ten off the start on his RM-Z450 and looked poised to log a great result. Unfortunately, he and another rider made contact, pushing Stewart back deep in the pack. He recovered to finish 16th, and is 13th in the 450 championship standings.
Suzuki RM-Z250 rider Kyle Peters continues to improve each week, as the North Carolina native finished a season-best sixth. He now sits ninth in the 250 East championship standings, only six points out of fifth place. Jimmy Decotis was anxious to race his RM-Z250 at the famed Daytona circuit. With the goal of landing on the podium for his second time in four races, the Massachusetts native swiftly worked up to the rear of teammate Peters on the opening lap. He misjudged a tricky dragon’s back obstacle and was sent into an endo and crashed. Decotis was transported to a local hospital, where it was discovered that he sustained multiple fractures to his back and ribs. We will provide a full status report on his condition when it becomes available.
H.E.P. Motorsports-
H.E.P. Motorsports went down to the historic Daytona International Speedway for the 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series during Daytona’s historic bike week. With a venue unlike any other this year, Daytona’s outdoor layout featured a long rhythm section that ran diagonal to the race track.
H.E.P. Motorsports riders Kyle Cunningham, Henry Miller, and Dustin Pipes all showed up to this historic venue ready to race. With all three riders throwing down qualifying times early on, Cunningham qualified with the fastest time amongst the three in 15th position. When that gate dropped in the first heat, Cunningham got a good jump but unfortunately got caught behind the pack in the first turn and found himself in 20th position. That deficit didn’t stop the Texas native by tripling in and out of rhythm sections, Cunningham was able to move up to ninth place grabbing the final transfer spot. In the main event, Cunningham didn’t get the start he’s been accustomed to and was buried in the pack. Putting down his head and charging through the pack, Cunningham put on some aggressive passes throughout the main event to secure 15th place.
Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki-
The Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki team rolled into Daytona International Speedway with three time European Supercross Champion Cedric Soubeyras filling in for the injured Matt Bisceglia. Soubeyras is no stranger to Monster Energy Supercross or the Suzuki RM-Z450, as the French native has been competing the past couple of rounds as a privateer. The evening started off strong for the three time French champion by finishing in eighth place in heat race two. During the main event, Soubeyras finished in 22nd position.
Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross-
The 9th Annual Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross (RCSX) once again returned to Daytona International Speedway. Following Saturday night’s Daytona Supercross, amateur racing kicked off Sunday morning and continued into Monday. Congratulations to the following RM Army racers that landed on the podium!
